Wax Ribbons
Wax ribbons are the most widely used thermal transfer ribbon type, and for good reason: they deliver reliable barcode and text quality on standard paper label stock at the lowest cost per print of any ribbon category. If your labels are paper-based and your application is general indoor use — shipping, receiving, inventory, product identification, work-in-process tags — wax is almost certainly the right ribbon for the job. The ink in a wax ribbon transfers to the label surface at relatively low heat, making it compatible with a wide range of paper facestocks without stressing the printhead. The resulting print resists ordinary handling and short-term exposure to light and moisture, though it is not suited for labels that will face prolonged outdoor exposure, chemical contact, or abrasion.
